Marisa is in her fourth year of the Chemical Engineering program and is the President of the Ryerson AIChE Student Chapter for the 2020-2021 year. Working alongside the other executives, she hopes to make the overall year a more enjoyable one for all students! While she’s not study-ing or hanging out with her friends, Marisa enjoys sketching, playing sports and reading. Andres is in his second year of Chemical Engineering. As the Chem-E-car Liason, he will be overlooking operations for the design team, for the 2020-21 year. Working in close collab-oration with AIChE and Chem-E-Car, he plans to ensure the success of both groups in this upcoming group. Active in the school community, he is always looking out for his classmates and any new opportunities that may arise.
Ilya is a third-year Chemical Engineering student and is the VP Operations for the 2020-2021 academic year. His goal is to utilize his role to foster an interdisciplinary collaborative environment for all engineering students and offer a new bridge between the engineering industry itself as well as new opportunities and challenges that all can explore! In his downtime, Ilya loves watching movies, reading a good self-help book, dancing, cooking, playing and watching basketball (NBA), going on long walks, and meeting new people who similarly share a success-driven thought process. If you ever see Ilya somewhere, always approach him and get ready for one of the best conversations that you ever had with another person.
Kitiga is in her fourth year of the Chemical Engineering program and is the VP Marketing for Ryerson AIChE and Chem-E-Car. Her goal is to help you, the student body, to feel as included as she did at Ryerson. You can hear from her through the social media accounts of Ryerson AIChE and Chem-E-Car, to give you all the updates, oppor-tunities, and event information happening throughout the school year. Kitiga plans to travel around the world and have Instagram pictures for days! For now, she enjoys finding new places to eat, going to the movies, and spending time with family and friends.
BATTERY TEAM LEAD
Samantha is a third-year Chemical Engineering student and is the current Battery Team Lead. While in this position, she hopes to establish a safe and fun working environment and is excited to collaborate with the whole team to create a cool chemical energy car that we can all be proud of! She loves watching movies, catching up on TV dramas, dancing, baking, and endlessly finding new hobbies. If you ever see Samantha in public, you can find her listening to all types of music and almost resisting the urge to groove.
STOPPING MACHANISM TEAM LEAD
Ali is entering his fourth year of studies in mechanical engineer-ing. As the stopping mechanism lead he will make sure that the sub-team is well organized and on track in order to achieve success for the sub-team and the whole project. Ali loves to collaborate with his peers and he always enjoys a good discussion. He is very passionate about philosophy, ergonomics, rock music and he has recently developed a passion for automation and computer programming.
MECHATRONICS TEAM LEAD
Manjot is an upper year Chemical Engineering student and is the Mechatronics Team Lead for the 2020-2021 year. Continuing this position from last year, she hopes to sustain an organized and collaborative work environment so that the Mechatronics sub-team can design the main body of the car, ensuring maximum structural stability. Manjot is also very passionate about her Environment and Urban Sustainability minor. Aside from school, some of her interests include going to the gym, painting, cooking and binge-watching TV shows!
Carrisa is in her second year of the Chemical Engineering program. As a member of the battery sub team, she hopes to collaborate well with her peers and other sub teams for the success of this project and is always ready for challenges that may arise! For now, Carrisa can be found binge watching Netflix shows, munching down good food, jamming to new music and of course making new friends even during this quarantine season!
Saif Banat will be heading into his third year of Chemical engineering this September. He is very excited about joining Chem-e-car for the second year in a row. His goals for this campaign are to bring more awareness to the design team and work as hard as possible to make this design team as successful as can be. In his free time Saif engages in all types of sports. His favourite sports are soccer and tennis. In addition to this, Saif likes to spend time enjoying nature and when possible watches TV shows and movies. Saif is very excited to meet you all!
Thanoosan is a third-year Chemical Engineering student finishing up his 12-month co-op at Sanofi Pasteur and is a member of the Ryerson Chem-E-Car team as a Battery Sub Team Member. His goal is to explore interests in the energy industry through contributions towards this design team and learn new things along the way. He loves to exercise, enjoys messing up his Spotify algorithm by listening to new music, trying new food spots out and is always picking up new hobbies. Currently, he is trying out photography and learning programming during the quarantine. He’s always down for a good conversation and meet new people so feel free to reach out :)
Sama is going into her second year of chemical engineering, and is proud and excited to be a general member working in the Chemical Battery sub-team in ChemECar! She hopes to gain valuable experience and knowledge from this position as well as have a great time working on something she’s passionate about! Sama enjoys playing video games, doing quiet activities such as paint and solving puzzles, and listening to music 24/7. Enoch Yi Nuo Xu,
Enoch is in his fourth year of the Chemical Engineering program at Ryerson University, and working towards a minor in Computer Science. As a member of the battery team, his goal is to explore emerging technologies within the energy industry through contributions towards the design team. Outside of academics, Enoch enjoys reading, cooking, playing boardgames, and travelling. He is always looking for new friends, new opportunities, and new places to eat.
Manav is in his fourth year of Chemical Engineering at Ryerson University completing an 8-month co-op at the City of Toronto-Wastewater Energy Division. He is a Chem-E-Car Battery sub-team member. He has a deep passion for renewable energy and believes alternative battery storage is the energy vision for the future. He hopes to continue his journey with the battery team through designing innovative battery technologies. Manav loves snacking and is always looking to eat, especially if someone is paying! Being a first time member of the Ryerson Chem-E-Car, he is looking forward to the problem solving and teamwork involved in the stopping mechanism part of the team. Lianne is in her 3rd year of Computer Engineering. She is on the Stopping Mechanism team. Her goal is to effectively collaborate with the Chem-E Car team and to spread awareness about Ryerson by competing in various Chem-E Car competitions. Lianne enjoys collecting and reading books, playing with her dog, and volunteering at different non-profit organizations.
Matthew James Malcolm Olver,
Matthew, an incoming first year student going into his first year of chemical engineering and is an enthusiastic member of Ryersons Chem-E-Car Mecha-tronics Sub Team. He hopes to join a team of fellow chemical engineering majors to innovate, design and build a winning chemical powered car and make Ryerson University proud. If you get to meet Matthew you will find that he loves talking about all things Hockey, sci fi, gaming and programming.
Varun is in his third year of mechanical engineering and is on the mechatronics sub-team. He has a strong interest in design and fabrication and is very excited to apply what he has learned in class to help build a structurally sound car. While on the interdisciplinary Chem-E-Car design team, he hopes to learn new things from fellow members. In his free time, Varun can be found watching movies, exercising, hanging out with friends, or cooking.
Suhaib is currently in his second going into third year in Mechanical Engineering and is extremely excited to join the Chem-E-Car team. He looks forward to collaborating with the team on the project to design and build an innovative car. Suhaib loves to meet and connect with new people, and is passionate to gain new experiences. Outside academics, he loves music, plays guitar and sings in his free time. While also sharing a passion for soccer and food, Suhaib is fond of travelling and watching movies with his friends.
Oresta is a 3rd year Biomedical Engineer student ready to take on any interesting challenge headed her way including being a new member of the Mecha-tronics sub-team of Chem-E-Car for the 2020-2021 year. She loves the outdoors and would camp any given day. Oresta hopes to one day bike to Niagara Falls from Toronto! On top of biking, she can also be found playing the ukulele, reading Psychology and Stephen King books, plus surviving off of tea with milk, and coffee. If you're craving bread, bagels or home-made pizza, she is definitely your baker go-to.
Aliyah is entering their third year in the Chemical Engineering program and is thrilled to be a part of the Mechatronics subteam on Chem-E car once again! They hope to work alongside their team members to create the programs required for the car to move and stop successfully! You can most likely catch them studying or completing lab reports, working towards their minor in computer science, and on the odd occasion playing rhythm games.
